Him Downstairs

August 9, 2008 the world lost the comedic genius Bernie Mac. I am so sad! How can this be? He was only 50 years old. Apparently, he died from complications from pneumonia - that coupled with his sardocardosis.

Years ago, I saw Bernie Mac in the Kings of Comedy at Madison Square Garden in NY. It was supposed to be 'couples' night, but unfortunately my boyfriend at the time had to work late (he was a cop so it wasn't an option, kwim). I ended up taking my mom with me and you know what - it turned out to be the best thing ever. My mother laughed until she couldn't laugh anymore and that night we both fell in love with Bernie Mac. He was HILARIOUS! He was the funniest 'King' and I'm so glad I got to see him live.

I was thinking back on all the things that Bernie Mac has been in and its hard to decide what I loved best. He was great in Charlie's Angels 2: Full Throttle, I loved him in Guess Who with Ashton Kutcher and Transformers the Movie. But maybe my favourite would have to be the Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen! You can just see that they all had a great time shooting that movie and I know Bernie being the comedian he is kept everyone in stitches.

The world mourns the passing of this comic great.
Prayerfully, him 'upstairs' making God laugh.
RIP Bernie Mac

Been so Long

I'm having a baby! I know, I can't believe it either. My father laughed when I told him - he thought I was joking around. If you saw the size of my belly you would know this is no joke!

This baby is happy and is busy, busy, busy. He or she is in there kicking away - I'm sure this baby will either be a swimmer, soccer player, or an outstanding dancer - none of which would be inherited from me! I'm glad about it - feeling the kicks lets me know that everything is cozy on the 'inside'. Its also scary - there is something growing inside of me. This is just a different experience.

This is really different - I mean, I can't even enjoy a burger from Johnny Rockets the way I used to! Apparently Shake Shack burgers taste the same if not better and go down quite easily. Psst...last time I was there I ate two Shack burgers, fries, soda (my only vice) and custard. Oh there is no shame in my game - just lots of food! My doctor has basically said 'Okay, you've gained enough weight, don't gain any more'. I'm trying - I really am. Look I only had pizza twice this week, isn't that good? Well isn't it!?!?

I met Supernanny last month at Babies 'R Us. Okay, I didn't make an appointment with her - it just so happened that she had a book signing. (I snuck up to Babies 'R Us because I saw the most adorable little sweater set that I just HAD to have.) She is lovely! Her eyes are GORGEOUS and she's so pretty. I'm sure her book is going to help me alot when the baby comes along. Aren't we cute together? She's a friend in my head.

Anywhoo...I'm off to find something to eat. Hey! Don't judge me!

I love him SO!

I have just the post to start off the new year. I've been challenged by Katherine fellow Happy Housewife to create a blog listing 10 reasons I love my DH. The hardest part was limiting the list to only 10 things.

So here is my Top Ten List of Reasons I Love my DH

10. He can't dance - and he isn't afraid to admit it
9. My DH is not afraid to tell the truth
8. He LOVES my cooking
7. He ALWAYS laughs at himself
6. He catches me in hugs at the most unexpected times
5. He's never ashamed to admit he's lost
4. He is such a good doggy daddy to Goldberg.
3. My DH goes out to work so that I can stay home
2. DH loves God and is not ashamed to say
1. DH adores me (And I adore him)

So there it is folks - now you know some of my secrets.

The New Year is coming, the New Year is coming!

I can't wait. New Year's Eve/New Year's Day is handsdown, my favourite holiday. I LOVE going into the new year. I'm so excited.

We're having a party its going to be so much fun. Yesterday, DH and I picked up our champagne and wine order. 'Party over here!' The food is all prepped and ready to go. I've got the hats and noise makers, we're going to have a great time.

But before 2008 there are somethings that need to be taken care of:

  1. Take some time to reflect on this past year. Sure, everything wasn't perfect, but lots of things were great. What did you master this year? What was your happiest memory from this year? What did you learn this past year?
  2. Cleaning house before the new year is a must. Firstly, some people have been so wrapped up in the Christmas holiday that they haven't cleaned all week. (Those persons shall remain nameless, KWIM?) Secondly, before you move into something new, you need to reflect on the old, declutter and prepare yourself for whats ahead. Thirdly, no one wants to wake up on January 1st after a great night of celebrating to a messy house. So start cleaning ASAP!
  3. Set some GOALS. Call them resolutions, goals, determinations! Call them anything you want, but plan to do SOMETHING great in 2008, plan to do something new in 2008,do something totally unexpected in 2008, but you must start with a plan!
  4. GO and make this your BEST YEAR EVER!!! I know I will

See ya next year

xoxo

Two-fer Tuesday (Christmas Edition)

Good things often come in twos - here are some of my favs.

Christmas Songs:
O Holy Night - the best version is by Christina Aguilera, she sang it at the White House in '99
Let it Snow

Christmas Parties:

ABC News - hosts a fabulous Christmas party at Tavern on the Green (oohh, lala), the food is always good and I can't keep my happy hips away from the dessert buffet table!

Dabar Family Worship Church Couples Christmas Gala

DH and I at the gala.I'm so glad we went this year (last year I was laid up with a broken thigh bone - this year I danced the night away!)

Christmas Cookies:
Gingerbread Women (yeah, I said it, So?!) and Thumbprints

Christmas Movies:
Charlie Brown Christmas and This Christmas (saw it today with my big sis, Ava and we LOVED it)

Christmas Activities:
Seeing the tree at Rockefeller Center and Enjoying the first taste of Eggnog of the season with DH

Favourite Christmas Smells:
Pine (like the Christmas wreath my big sis, Ava and I decorated today) and Gingerbread- love the smell of baking gingerbread women (yeah, I said it!)

Favourite Christmas Memories:
When I was about 7, I had a bracelet that I received as a gift earlier that year. On Christmas morning my mom said I could wear it to church when she tried to open the box she couldn't get it open, so she asked me to open it. When I opened it, in addition to my bracelet I found a brand new watch. It was digital and had a blue wristband and a gold face, it was so cute. I was super excited I couldn't wait to wear it to church that morning.

DH and I spent our first married Christmas at the Marriott Seaview in New Jersey it was amazing, the hotel was decorated beautifully, so many people were spending the holidays there. We had a beautiful suite, gorgeous marble bathroom, tremendous king sized bed set with beautiful linens. While we were there we slept late, took long romantic hikes in the woods, we swam, went to the spa and got massages - it was great. For Christmas dinner, we went to Carmines in Atlantic City - my meal delicious, I had grilled chicken and sausage - yummy, finished my meal with a scrumptious tiramisu. How good is that!?!?

Everything UNDER the Kitchen Sink.

For the last few months, whenever I need to use my George Foreman Grill (Thank you, Clara), get a bottle of pinesol or my handmixer, I would sneak up on it, open the door (cue the scary music) reach my trembling hand in and grab whatever my fingertips touched as quickly as possible, praying that my hand wouldn't get lost in the mish-mosh of crap beneath, you guessed it

The kitchen sink.

But I finally did it.
I put on my gloves, some lipstick and a beautiful silk scarf to hold my hair back (Come on, you KNOW I have to be fabulous even when doing the dirty work) and I did the seemingly impossible and finally cleaned under the sink. Waaaahhh!!!

Oh, I might put on a brave front now - but I was pretty scared, who knew what was down there. Ha, well now I know whats down there. I cleaned it all out, straightened everything- threw out loads of junk that I didn't need (paint thinner from 1997 anyone?) and I actually found some good useful stuff. I found a teapot, brand spanking new still in the box - good I can use that when I have company next week. I found a gorgeous silver bowl (AND the Tarn-x I need to clean it), found some perfectly good lightbulbs and one bug and it looks like he bit the bullet a very long time ago and I got him all by myself (thats okay, I can pat myself on the back).

I feel so good, I was in the process of doing my usual seasonal deep clean and everything always feels better after its done. I pulled out the stove and fridge all by my lonesome (not too long ago the house help would've done that, but now I am the Diva Housewife, I do it all myself and looking fly to boot!). I cleaned out the cupboards, threw away old cups, found a micoplane, a whisk (just bought one last week at Home Goods), and serving utensils brand new that still had the price on them. I put all my new cookie sheets and baking pans away, cleared off the kitchen counter and now I'm done. Time to sit back and relax until the next scary home project pops up.

Oh NO!
There it is
The linen closet!
I'm scared!
Hold me!
